My family and I went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival on Sunday and we had a good old fashioned time.
We arrived at the festival at 2:30pm and stayed through closing at 6:15pm. For us, that was a nice amount of time. There were certainly many more things we could have seen if we had spent more time but with a 2 year old and a grandma it was just fine!
WELCOME! |
As we headed back in time, one of the first stops was the Black Swan Company ~ Wooden Swords and Shields!
My son made a bee line inside and instantly found a realistically painted sword. He handed it to my 2 year old daughter and she didn't want to let it go....the very friendly craftsman proceeded to gift my daughter a small sword with a pink handle !

That is when the first impromptu sword fight took place (nothing uncommon in this village) when my husband borrowed my daughter's sword!
We were then off to play some games- knife throwing, star throwing and some other kind of throwing in which my husband had a good time doing but didn't have much success at. I guess those Medieval games are harder than you would think- not as easy as some video game LOL! After that defeat, hubby needed some reinforcements- a TURKEY leg of course! We sampled some other treats: pizza, roasted corn, roasted cinnamon crunch almonds and frozen oranges with a yummy orange slush concoction on top.
As we strolled through shops on our way to watch some fun family shenanigans. We stopped to listen to a beautiful lady and her harp! The shady area was a nice place to rest for a bit.
When we made it to the Rialto Stage, we watched the comical and courageous, "play" with fire and walk a tight-rope engulfed in flames.
The Family Circus whose hijinks, juggling and eclectic mix of numbers kept the whole family laughing and awe- seriously a great show- Don't miss them!
After the circus we went to visit the camels, elephants and llamas- and although my daughter claimed she wanted to ride a camel this is as close as she got.
We watched some belly dancers near the Joust arena and my daughter loved playing in the dress shoppe.
The Final Joust-fun and fanfare- even though it was "to the death" my 5 year old was cool with it.
One of the best things about being at the festival at the end of the day was the farewell at the exit- songs and merriment.
As we left, my daughter and I stopped to get some magical fairy dust and gem! Until next year or maybe next week ;) Arizona Renaissance Festival!
