Musical Instrument Museum Scottsdale ~ Musical Memories for the Family
From the outside the Musical Instrument Museum looks like an amazing piece of modern architecture in the middle of a fairly underdeveloped area of the desert in Scottsdale. As you pull around to the parking lot there is a beautiful courtyard where outdoor concerts and events take place. We visited right before the prickly pear were ready to bloom- I can only imagine the grandeur when they are in bloom.
We went in and were given earphones to hear and enjoy all of the exhibits inside. For the kids, next time I would bring smaller headsets if you have them because these didn't quite tighten enough to fit my 3 year-old and could have been a bit tighter for my 6 year-old.
This museum is such an awesome family activity-there is something for everyone: I loved the room with the very old and unusual instruments, my husband loved the Elvis exhibit, my son grooved to many of the African beats and exhibits and my daughter was enthralled with the Taylor Swift exhibit. Just as music spans so many different genres so does the museum.
The best part for families is the Experience Gallery which is a "feel free to touch" room! Here we were all able to play so many interesting instruments including a gong and our family favorite: the harps! There are also Kids Events listed on their website HERE
