 Music and Dance Camps:
The Cure for Summer Boredom

Summer vacation has only just begun and the choruses of “I’m bored” are right around the corner.

This year, instead of laying around the house or melting like a popsicle at the playground, give your kids the chance to become a superhero, princess, rock star or dancer at the Music and Dance Academy's Summer Camp sessions. Offering nine different camps,  Music & Dance Academy has a week-long experience for kids of all ages. Sessions run June 22 through 26, July 13 through 18 and July 20 through 24. For more information, visit  Music & Dance Academy online at www.MusicDanceTucson.com or facebook.com/AZmusicdance call (520) 219-2303 to sign up for camp.

For the younger kids, there’s Little Princesses Camp for girls aged 3 to 7, Little Superheroes Camp for boys aged 3 to 6, and Frozen Fun Camp for girls aged 4 to 8. Little Princesses will learn to develop their balance, coordination and basic dance techniques while finding out more about different princesses each day (and every princess receives a royal tiara). Little Superheroes will spend their week with a different hero theme emphasizing movement, dance and exciting crafts. Frozen Fun Camp offers a respite from the sweltering summer heat for girls to arrive in their royal finery and immerse themselves in a frozen world featuring dancing, singing and sparkly crafts.
For kids 5 to 12, there’s Musical Theatre Camp where Broadway comes to Tucson and students will work on characterization, vocal techniques and learn about the various styles and techniques of musical theater as well as build their own props for a performance.
All In One Dance Camp is the perfect place to discover what type of dance moves you. Kids 8 through 12 will learn a little bit of jazz, ballet, hip hop and tap for a high-energy week of dance exploration.
For campers leaning more inclined toward musical instruments, Music & Dance Academy has several offerings. Guitar Camp, for ages 7 to 11, offers a journey through the various types of guitar playing, including folk, blues, country and rock. Guitar camp features daily group lessons and a supportive coaching environment.
Piano Camp uses games and musical activities where kids ages 7 to 11 will learn to read notes, musical symbols and discover rhythm.
Drum Jam Camp has two different groups, one for students age 6 to 10 and the other for ages 11 to 18. Each day offers a unique perspective on a different percussion instrument from around the world and teaches hand drumming techniques in a group setting.
For kids with a year or more of musical instrument experience, there’s Rock Band Camp. With groups for ages 9 through 12 and another for ages 12 to 18, guitar, bass, drum and piano players will come together to jam and learn to play as a band as well as performance techniques, composition, chording and recording.
Camps run for a full week and meet Monday through Friday for daily two hour sessions at  Music & Dance Academy’s Oro Valley or Catalina Foothills locations and all camps end with a Friday performance for friends and family. They’re a fun way to keep kids’ brains sharp after the school year is finished.
Sessions run June 22 through 26, July 13 through 18 and July 20 through 24. For more information, visit  Music & Dance Academy online at www.MusicDanceTucson.com or facebook.com/AZmusicdance or call (520) 219-2303 to sign up for camp.
