We spent an afternoon at the Playhouse- The Great American Playhouse in Oro Valley that is. We saw the current production of "The Amazings- Heroes of Tomorrow". They are a very fantastically fun family. In fact, they are actually a family (partly). Jose "Chach" Snook, Jodi Darling, and their daughter Julia Snook are all in this show. How fun is that a real family getting to act out the superhero family storyline together! The storyline is a classic one in which the superheroes will need to use their distinct powers but work as a team to try and save the world from imminent destruction.
The other Amazing children (pun intended) appear to fit right in. Not only do they have superpowers but they feed off of each other on stage for sure. The despondent teenager, Violet is played by the lovely and versatile actress, Amanda Valenzuela. We love her and everything we have seen her in here in Tucson- sad to see she is off to college but hopefully she will be back to act in the Old Pueblo soon. For now catch her in this witty, musical romp to save the planet.
The bad guys always seem to be some of my faves. Splendido (Sean MacArthur), Phantasm (Jacqueline Williams), and Scott (Daniel Lopez) were great and almost swayed all of us with their evil ways. However, I think that I may have gone with the good guys this time. I mean I can't side with the idea of such doom, right?
Frost Bite (Brian Paradis), Cuckoo Chanel (Jesus Limon), and Dr. Linguine (Nick Seivert) really added to the hilarity of the show. The absolute raw, crazy energy on stage during their scenes could be felt in the audience.
The Great American Summertime OLIO was nice and the perfect timing in the "Who's On First" skit was superb. Some of the patriotic songs even made me feel a bit sentimental which I was not expecting at all during this type of production. We will definitely be back to see what else the Great American Playhouse has in store.
The Amazings- Heroes of Tomorrow
"Mr. Amazing & Elastigal were forced to retire after years of service in the government’s “Super Crime-Fighting program!” They’ve retired to a normal life in suburbia, married & have raised a family. Years later, an old enemy resurfaces, threatening to destroy the world. The Amazings must get back in action! Along with their kids, who possess their own super abilities, and trusty sidekicks Frost Bite and Dr. Linguine, the Amazings try to save the world! But, is it too late?"
