The Good Dinosaur Opens Today 11/25/15 {A Review}

My son (9 years-old) and I saw Pixar's newest film, The Good Dinosaur this week and it was really breathtakingly beautiful. Some of our favorite scenes included the natural world, the mountains, the running river, the fireflies, the clouds, and the scary storms circling above. The  sweet and clumsy dinosaur, Arlo and the non-verbal human character, Spot form an unlikely friendship. The movie follows their ups and downs together as they encounter strange and often unfriendly characters along Arlo's journey to find his way home. I had wished there was some more interaction between some of the characters that we saw very briefly.The lack of dialogue was fine at the beginning of the movie with all the landscape scenes but as the movie progressed I felt that it needed more substance at least for older kids and adults. In order to keep the attention of the younger kiddos, I think dinosaurs will do just that.

"The Good Dinosaur" asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?  Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream (“Cars 2”), Disney•Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” opens in theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

I loved Sanjay's Super Team, the short at the beginning of the film! I really appreciated the way the seemingly semi-autobiographical film shared a tiny taste of Indian culture yet universally united the audience to feel the generational gap between parents and their children. I want to see more of this colorful, action-filled story.

In the end, The Good Dinosaur and Sanjay's Super Teams' message is about friendship and family. What is Thanksgiving and the holiday season all about?  Exactly those things to me. The Good Dinosaur is a great choice to kick of your Thanksgiving holiday or to go with the family after your meal.  We will be heading back to see it again with my daughter. Let me know what your family thinks.

Thank you to Disney and Pixar for allowing us to have passes to see the film.
