Store Policies-updated

Knowing each stores couponing policies will save you a lot of frustration and stress at the checkout. I will lay out each stores policy as I know them. The only stores that have a publicly accessible Corporate policy is Target and Walmart. I will update as soon as I can get the grocery store policies.

If you have difficulty understanding some of the coupon lingo, check out this post: Couponing 101: Coupon Lingo

Fry's:
~At this point(3/2012) Fry's ismaking all coupons worth $1 that are under $1 and above $1 at face value.
~They follow the 3-coupon rule.
~Occasionally they will do a quadruple coupon promotion.
You can load E-coupons HERE
You can only use 1 coupon either an E-coupon or paper coupon on the same item.

Safeway:
~Doubles coupons everyday. At this point (3/2012) they make all coupons worth $1 up to 3 of the same.
~They follow the 3-coupon rule.
~Occasionally will do a quadruple coupon promotion.
~Their ad sometimes has Store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons (read the fine print because there is usually a $10 or a $20 minimum purchase)
They do not offer overage-the computer system will allow the item for free.

Bashas':
~Doubles coupons everyday.
~They follow the 3-coupon rule.
~Occasionally will do a quadruple or a double dollar promotion (doubles $1 coupons to $2).
~They have in-ad store coupons sometimes that you can stack with manufacturer coupons (just read the fine print, sometimes the wording makes it sound like only the Bashas' coupon can be used)

Albertsons (also referred to as Albies)
~Does not double coupons everyday.
~They occasionally have a double coupon or quadruple coupon promotion going on. When they have these promotions ask if they are only quadrupling or doubling 3 coupons. This past promo I asked and the cashier said no all of them will double/quadruple and they did.
~Occasionally they have in-ad store coupons that you can stack with manufacturer coupons. ~They also have a monthly flyer that has in store coupons in it (usually hanging up on the endcaps)

Target:

~Does not double coupon, and I have never seen them do a double coupon promotion.

~They do have Target coupons online that you can stack with a manufacturer coupon. The Target coupon clearly states one coupon per transaction and I would recommend following what the coupon states.

~They do not give cash back if the face value of the coupon(s) is greater than the purchase value of the item; in that case they will mark down the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.

~They do not take competitor's coupons.

Kmart:

~Does not double coupons everyday, they take coupons at their face value.

~They occasionally do their double up to $2 coupons. Basically the promo rules are:

•Coupons valued up to $2 will double (yes $2 coupons will double to $4),
•They usually only allow 10 coupons per transaction per day
•The transaction has to add up to $25.
•Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupons will end up being 2 freebies as long as the item is priced under $2. How? you ask. Well the cashier inputs the negative amount for the free item and it automatically gets doubled making both of the items free.
**The rules to the promo changes a little each time. Please read the current rules during the promo dates to verify.

Walmart:
~Does not double coupons. At this point(9/2011) select stores ARE doubling coupons and offering overage.
~They take coupons at their face value.
~They price match other competitors prices, just bring in the competitor's ad. Make sure you are matching the exact item, otherwise they will not match it.

CVS- Will be discussed in Couponing 101: Drugstores
Walgreens- Will be discussed in Couponing 101: Drugstores

  1. I have more of a question. Can you add the information about which store will apply an overage if the coupon is worth more than the item. For example, a soap is on sale for $.75 and you have a coupon that is $.50 and doubles, are there any stores that will apply the $.25 overage to the rest of your basket?

    Thanks, Meg
