Tucson Happenings 11/11-11/13

FRIDAY 11/10/11
What: “El Sabor de Tucson” is a 2 day festival featuring regional art, music and food with a latin emphasis. Purchase art for a large cross section of regional artists including Indigenous art from the Seri, Yaqui and Mayo tribes of Sonora and Pasqua Yaqui, Tohono O”Othom tribes of Southern Arizona as well as many local area artists. The art for sale will include art from all art media. Original Artwork and Prints; including Oil Paintings, Prints, Paper, Metal, wood, etc. We should have over 50 artists in attendance. Support your community and regional artists while helping the Chamber Foundation’s Youth Leadership Development and Education Programs. The “El Sabor” ticketed event will be a fun evening, featuring food, dance demonstrations, opportunity to show off our dance skills and a sampling of many fine beverages.

What:Vail Country Fair Look for fun for all ages with events and exhibits for everyone in the family:  oreo-stacking, a petting zoo, helicopter rides, cow-pie bingo, exhibits from 150 local businesses, schools, clubs, and organizations, food…and the beer garden will be open!

What: "A Crooked Tale"-Puppet Show Kate and Caleb live an ordinary life in the country until a witch’s spell turns Caleb into a dog. Not knowing the creature is her husband, Kate befriends the mysterious dog. Watch the hilarious antics unfurl as Kate searches for her beloved. “A Crooked Tale” is based on the book “Caleb and Kate” by William Steig. Puppets Amongus is an interactive theater troupe featuring a variety of puppetry styles and live music. What:Sonoran Desert Kids Club:Southwest Pottery Learn about the materials and techniques used by people in the desert southwest throughout history to make and decorate pottery. What:La Encantada Fine Art Festival, now in its fifth year! SAACA has once again teamed up with the La Encantada Shopping Center to bring you one of the finest art festivals in the region. As a limited capacity show, 35 of the region’s finest artists are slated to present and sell their work at the La Encantada Fine Art Festival. The show will also be featuring free children’s art activities and live entertainment all day long! On the main stage in the lower level TUCSON LIFESTYLE courtyard, live performing arts entertainment will take place throughout the weekend in a series of formats and genre’s including: dance, theatre and music.

What:Classic Car Show. Trophies are awarded in several categories and dash pins are given to the first seventy-five cars registered. Friends and families gather to enjoy the great “Happy Days” atmosphere which offers live DJ entertainment. The kids have lots of fun with the hoola-hoops, bubble gum blowing contests, the bunny hop and a jumping castle!

What:THE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE IS COMING TO TOWN The Union Pacific RR is celebrating our centennial with the Historic Steam Engine #844! The train arrives at the Historic Depot. Folks are encouraged to dress in historic period clothing to welcome the mayor and the train. Antique vehicles will be on display.

What:Bike Swap Meet The Fourth Avenue Merchants Association (FAMA) presents the Greater Arizona Bicycle Associations Bike Swap Meet on Saturday November 12th, from 6am to 1pm. Come on down to 4th Avenue and support green transportation. Am told, that this is the Second Largest Bike Swapp Meet in North America. Go figure, Go Tucson. Everything about or for bikes; clothing, gear, bicycles of every description, parts, and people! Get ready for the Tour de Tucson! Great prices, great selection; like the AutoMall of bikes!

 What:Up with People! An awesome family friendly performanceUp with People’s all-new production is entitled “A Song for the World” which features the energy and talent of a cast and staff of 100 representing 20 countries. The live two-hour performance includes both original and popular music and is a dynamic blend of feature soloists, full cast production numbers, fast-moving choreography and colorful costumes. Throughout the show, international cast members will provide the audience with a glimpse of their own national traditions and cultures through music and dance with musical stops in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa. What:THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE. This new musical take on the classic tale features original musical numbers by Michael Martinez and choreography by Kristi Loera, putting audiences track-side of a momentous fairy-tale sporting event with some old and new lessons to learn along the way. Get ready to cheer on your favorite competitor and don’t forget to stretch!
