An Afternoon at the Velveteen Rabbit!

An Afternoon at the Velveteen Rabbit!
Childsplay is putting on their 25th Anniversary presentation of The Velveteen Rabbit. Tickets start at just $12, barely more than a movie ticket these days. I’m sure after you catch a show you will agree that the value will be lifelong. There are two more weeks of the Velveteen Rabbit and then they will prepare for the Cat in the Hat! Childsplay is a Tempe based, Nonprofit adult theatre company that specializes in creating productions for and educating young people. Their goal is to teach children to love theatre and nurture imagination.

This was a perfect play for encouraging imagination! My kids practically wanted to jump on the bed with the Boy and Rabbit for a big adventure. The oversized set was so creative; it really made you feel like a kid again. Some of the cast were from the original production from 25 years ago. Everything was great; there was a real sense of magic in the air. We would see it again and recommend it to all the families we know. It was fun, inexpensive, enriching, and exciting! Childsplay does a great job and they couldn’t use a better venue. We loved everything about this afternoon adventure.

We had such a wonderful time at the Tempe Center for the Arts. This is our second time seeing a Childsplay production there. I can’t say enough about what a great experience it is for the whole family. First of all the venue is beautiful. It sits right next to Tempe Town Lake, very near to Mill Ave. and Tempe Beach Park. It has a lovely bridge outside the back patio, which you can walk across to stretch your legs before or after a show. For years I wondered what that crazy building was as I drove next to it on the 202. After going in it, I have to say, stop waiting and go inside!

The Theatre is a work of art. There are 600 great seats, and they even keep booster seats on hand for your little guys so that they don’t try standing on the seats or your lap the whole time to see over other kids in front of them. Plan to catch a show right away. More information is available at the link below.

Catch this production through the end of December
