Barefoot Books: Princess and Pirate Review + A GIVEAWAY!

My kids read every day in the summer- usually once in the afternoon and once before bed over the summer. Our before bed books for the last  2 weeks have been the Barefoot Book of Princesses and The Barefoot Book of Pirates! These books have been great to take to bed and read one story each night.  I enjoyed reading with them.  They have interesting tales that I have never heard before.  They come from all around the world and add a depth and even a little bit of darkness that many mainstream children's stories leave out. The stories were new to my kids and ignited their curiosity.  The illustrations were vibrant and helped transport the reader to another land for each story.

Our favorite Princess tale is "The Princess Who Lost her Hair"  from Akamba

Our favorite Pirate story is "The Ship of Bones" from Morocco.

To go along with the Pirate stories (and because Macaws are my son's favorite bird) we were also entranced with this beautiful Folkmanis finger puppet available through Barefoot Books HERE. He has since been named Chico and he has had many of his own adventures!

Check out local Barefoot Books Ambassador- Allison Diehl's site HERE.  Orders can be taken and sent out of state.

Enter to win one of three $25 gift certificates HERE and get your summer reading off to an exciting start!

I was given the books to review and the gift certificates to pass on to you.
