Pima Air and Space Museum Night Wings + Giveaway

The museum stays open late for this summer-evening program filled with fun aviation activities for kids. Night Wings occurs on the 4th Saturday of June, July and August, and the museum stays open till 9:00pm. Adults only pay $10. Kids 12 & under are FREE. The fun begins at 5:00pm.

Each Night Wings evening features one “main attraction.” Main attractions in the past have been radio-controlled jets, LEGO® Robotics, and a fan favorite, the Physics Factory. Refer to our website’s online event calendar for the special attractions of upcoming Night Wings events close to the event.

There are also 12 to 15 different aviation-related activity stations that will engage children as they learn about flight. Some offer small prizes and others award a prize at the end of the night! Programs in the past have included:
  • Coloring/drawing contests (a great way to win a family membership)
  • Aviation-themed puzzles and games
  • Impact craters exploration
  • Space food samplings (including ice cream, YUM!)
  • Photo ops in the cockpit of the T-33 Shooting Star high-speed jet trainer
  • Plane spotting (just like during WWII!)
  • Memory game, large scale and aviation-style
  • Paper airplanes
  • Kite building
  • Seltzer-rocket launching
  • Straw-rocket creation and launch
(there will be 4 winners!)

At the upcoming Night Wings, Pima Air & Space’s summer Saturday evening event, families can participate in great kids’ STEM activities, including NASA’s “Exploration Design Challenge (EDC),” in which kids study the effects of radiation on astronauts and recommend solutions to block harmful radiation. Names of the participants of the NASA “EDC” will go into space on board the Orion spacecraft (EFT-1 scheduled to launch this fall) and be considered its “virtual crew.” More information about the EDC can be obtained at www.nasa.gov/education/edc or http://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/exploration-design-challenge-launch.html#.U6C-THamU1I .It’s always an honor to partner with NASA to increase enthusiasm for space exploration. And signing up virtual NASA crew members from the Tucson area is an exciting as well as an interesting STEM exercise to add to our activity-filled Night Wing evening.” stated Yvonne Morris, Executive Director of the Arizona Aerospace Foundation that operates the Pima Air & Space Museum.

There will be two more 2014 “Night Wings” summer evening events this year on Jul. 26th and Aug. 23rd, 5 to 9pm (the 4th Saturday of the month), with new special activities.

I was given these tickets to give and for my family to attend from Pima Air and Space Musuem.
