New theater, new shows, new experience! Come experience our new, completely renovation planetarium theater with stunning FullDome digital projection. Fly through the Solar System in style and comfort with daily non-stops to Mars and beyond! Our Grand Opening event will take place on Saturday, August 27th with Free Admission at University of Arizona Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium to all exhibits, and $3 admission to the three new FullDome shows- “Asteroid: Mission Extreme”, “Mysteries of the Unseen World” and “We are Stars”.
On the very same day as the Grand Re-Opening for Flandrau’s newly renovated planetarium theater, the UA’s Lunar and Planetary Lab (next door to Flandrau on the UA Mall) will host the “Countdown to Lift-off!” a pre-launch event for the OSIRIS-REx mission that features speakers from the UA’s mission team and science education activities that are fun for the whole family. You can learn more about the Countdown event here: https://
Along with free admission and $3 planetarium shows, we’ll also have the Roadrunner Food Truck on the mall so you can tour the exhibits, see a FullDome show in the new planetarium theater, then have lunch before you check out one of the presentations at the Countdown event. Plus we’ll have plenty of free air-conditioning in both buildings. There is so much great science happening that Saturday, we hope you’ll join the fun. About Our New Shows:
ASTEROID: MISSION EXTREME. Produced by National Geographic, this film takes the audience on a visually stunning journey to an asteroid, and explores how these giant space rocks could be used as stepping-stones for human space exploration. Learn about the science of asteroids and the potential danger they pose to Earth. All showings of ASTEROID: MISSION EXTREME will also include a “live” planetarium show about the OSIRIS-REx mission, the asteroid sample return mission which is being led by the University of Arizona for NASA! The OSIRIS-REx mission launches on September 8.
