Tucson, AZ - The Pima Community College Music Department presents its Fall Music Showcase. Enjoy this eventful afternoon filled with the melodies of our diverse music ensembles. From the harmonious voices of Chorale & College Singers, to the dynamic rhythms of Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Mariachi Ensemble and Orchestra, revel in a symphony of performances.

Pima Concert Band, led by Victor Valenzuela, will perform four light selections. From the exciting Pas Redoublé to a depiction of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting to two delightful marches, this program is sure to have you tapping your toes!

Pima Orchestra, directed by Anne Grimes, will perform Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Waltz,” Buxtehude’s “Chaconne” and Stravinsky’s “Berceuse and Finale” from his Firebird Suite.

Pima Chorale & College Singers - Immerse yourself in the enchanting melodies of this concert, led by Jonathan Ng, D.M.A. This diverse repertoire of performances features a grand mixed-voice choir. PCC Chorale will perform “Laudate!” by John Leavitt, College Singers (a cappella group) will perform “Shenandoah” by Michael J. Trotta. The groups will come together to perform “O Danny Boy” by Bob Chilcott.

Pima Guitar Ensemble, directed by Michael Lich, will perform a program featuring “Songs from the United Kingdom” (“Dacw ‘Nghariad,” “The Water is Wide,” “Scarborough Fair”) arranged by Lou Warde, as well as “Incantation and Rain” by Olga Amelkina-Vera and the premiere performance of “eAnimas” by Michael Lich. The showcase will include special guests from the Music and Dance Academy of Tucson and the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music.

Pima Jazz Ensemble, presents big band classics from Count Basie, Thad Jones, Woody Herman and Buddy Rich, spanning the 1940s to the 1970s. Under the direction of Scott Black, the ensemble will perform iconic compositions transporting audiences to the golden age of big-band jazz.

Pima Mariachi Ensemble - Mariachi Azteca de Pima College, led by Don Fuentes, will perform mariachi standards along with modern compositions, including Mexican variations and styles of the Son, Ranchera, Huasteca and Bolero.
