What is El dia del niño? It is simply translated as the Day of the Child or Children's Day. We have a Mother's Day and a Father's Day and just about every other kind of day for different family members and workers. Why not celebrate our awesome kiddos and the future of our world? I guess we sort of do but i certainly didn't know about it. When is it? How is it celebrated?
In Hispanic countries they celebrate it with parades, festivals and parties! I actually heard about it first from one of my friends from PR (shout out to Mayda!). I then have had the opportunity to celebrate it here in Tucson and it is a blast. mexico celebrates it on April 30th although other countries may have different dates. Here is a bit more in-depth information.
This year the library has been celebrating with events and there are two festivals that I know of- you do not have to be a Spanish-speaker to attend these events but maybe your kids will learn what Feliz- Dia del niño means!
