This is a great children's story! It is very close to my heart. My son has a PWS or Port Wine Stain birthmark on his face. Not too many people ask about it but I know that as he gets bigger there are bound to be kids that ask him what it is. I have always taught him that it is just a birthmark and that he can ask back if they have a birthmark anywhere. He can say I was born it with it if he wants. He can decide what he wants to say! Teaching him to be resilient and cherish differences in all of us are important lessons with or without a birthmark.
I came across this book that is in the process of getting funded If you can help fund it or know somebody that can - please share :) There is a desire for the author's to continue this as a series about many children and their differences not just PWS. What a lovely idea.
"Grant and I are so grateful with the positive response to our book, Sam's Birthmark. There are only a few days left to help with the funding for its printing. Our beautiful son Barron was born with a port wine stain birthmark on the right side of his face. He inspired us to write for children about how every child in the world is unique and special in their own way. The beautiful watercolor illustrations were created by interior designer Mary Anne Smiley.
We are pre-selling the book on Kickstarter to raise funds for our printing costs. If you think this is a great message to teach children, please consider going to our link.
If the book is not funded by October 31, 2012, all pledges will be returned."
