Sail Away to Another Era with "Anything Goes"

I looked over at my Mom and said, "This reminds me of being at Radio City Music Hall and watching the Rockettes with you."  No, I did not take a quick trip to New York or even San Francisco but stayed right here in the Old Pueblo and went to Broadway in Tucson's presents the Roundabout Theatre's Production of "Anything Goes".

The performance was truly an escape to another era. We said Bon Voyage to Tucson and boarded the S.S. American to the 1930's. There was enough drama, classy sensuality, gorgeous gowns, music and dancing to captivate the audience without any use of werewolves or vampires.
The nostalgic charm and charisma of the 1940's came alive with the art deco set, creatively used to emphasize different parts of the ship.  One of my favorite set changes was the On Deck, at Twilight with twinkling stars.  The orchestra in the pit was such a sweet surprise.  The live music really makes such a noticeable difference especially in the intimate space of the Tucson Music Hall.

The star, Reno Sweeny (played by Rachel York) was like a diamond, shiny and tough enough to cut glass if she needed to.  Although, she did show her vulnerable side, the sassy and sexy aspects of her personality were the most fun! The storyline follows a comedy of errors in which love comes to all in the end with a triple on-board-the-ship wedding. In between, the dancing and songs are stellar examples of talent and pure entertainment.

Take your visiting relatives out to a Broadway Show ...Broadway in Tucson that is and sit back and relax.  Let yourself sail away to another era of ultimate glamour and superior performances. Do not miss this one!
