Bat Bridges in Tucson

We go every summer to see the bats emerge from they homes under bridges over washes in the Tucson area.  We went this week and we are always amazed to see them.  This is a simple and free activity to do with the family and it is the evening so it is not too hot.

Our favorite bridge is Rillito River- The easiest way to see them is to go to the Trader Joe's parking lot at Campbell and just south of River Road on the east side of the street. Located at 4209 N. Campbell Ave. The, walk back north to the end of the parking lot. You will most likely see others there waiting to see the bats near the Rillito RiverPath trail. 



This time we made it right at 7:30pm as they began to fly out for their insect feasts. There were also larger hawks waiting to get a bat treat. Go right before sunset and you should see them emerge.

There is also Pantano River Park on Pantano and 22nd or sometimes we go to the Home Depot and Sam Levitz parking lot and bridge on Broadway and Pantano. Our favorite is Rillito though.
