It is now officially fall and the holidays are right around the corner. It is the perfect time to take the family on a weekend road trip or get ready to visit family over the winter holidays. Here is an easy way to make sure that your child's car seat is correctly installed and to see your car's car seat rating from cars.com.

Tips to get your car seat ready to go:

1. Go to:  https://www.cars.com/news/car-seat-check/
and enter the year, make, and model of your vehicle. From there you will see ratings and tips on how to properly install car seats with your particular car. Make sure to check out the articles and notes that go along with the ratings; they are very informative.

2. Go through the car seat AND vehicle manual thoroughly and register your car seat as soon as you purchase it. This will ensure that you will receive any updated information or possible recall issues with the seat you are using.

3. Get a car seat inspection to make sure that everything is installed and functioning properly. Car seats have come a long way in keeping precious cargo safe and we must do our part to ensure that they are being used as the manufacturer intended. Think about how the straps on the car seat need to be tightened correctly and where the buckle should be after tightening. It is also important to use the vehicle how it is designed to be used.  For example, should you be using a latch system in your car or not?
