Gaslight Music Hall Brings Us to the Beach! {A Review}

This post may contain affiliate links.Please see my disclosure policy HERE
The Gaslight Theatre Music Hall in Oro Valley is now showing not only fabulous concerts (See HERE )but also some silly and extremely fun high audience participation shows starting with Beach Blanket Be-Bop - A New Musical Revue on Thursdays this summer!

My family and I were invited to see this show and it comes complete with some of the tried and true aspects of the Gaslight Theatre - free refills on the  popcorn, lots of laughs, checkered tablecloths, a great menu (including Grandma Tony's pizza), audience participation, live music accompaniment, witty (sometimes groan-worthy) jokes, great singing and did I say popcorn and pizza?
Photo credit: Gaslight Music Hall

There are also a few differences- this show is more like the Olios from the end of a Gaslight show on Broadway. There is an emphasis on jokes, songs and on-stage audience participation! This makes for a slightly different experience from the melodrama expected at the Broadway Gaslight location but a laugh-out-loud-one nonetheless. My favorite joke was: Q. What do you call a surfer that broke up with his girlfriend?  A. Homeless.

My son danced in the aisle with Bonnie-
played by Samantha Cormier
Kids and adults are invited on stage for different parts of the show- a hula hoop contest and limbo contest that award both the winners and participants a little extra souvenir to take home. When at the show, leave your shyness behind and jump in to participate. Your name may be used throughout the rest of the show- hint hint.Watch the Big Kahuna (Played by Jesus Limon) get down with the crowd- you do not want to miss his moves!

Glen (played by Brian paradis) on the far right will keep you laughing all night!

The standout performance for us throughout the entire show was the naturally wacky and silly Brian Paradis playing Glen in the show. He is over the top but makes it seem effortless and that he really is like that- maybe he is who knows but you have to watch all of his expressions and reactions- LOVED him!
Photcredit: Gaslight Music Hall
There is a storyline of young love between Rhonda (played by Brittany Mazur) and Mickey (Played by Jeremy Vega) that earned a squeal and covering of her eyes from my daughter when Rhonda found out out that he really loves her because "It's In His Kiss". Mickey can play the drums too! He joined the band in one of my favorite numbers of the night-"Wipeout". My kids were singing surfing songs and belting out the word "Tequila" on the way home. All in good fun.
Mickey (played by Jeremy Vega)  and the rest of the crew banging out Wipeout
