The Gaslight Theatre Music Hall in Oro Valley is now showing not only fabulous concerts (See HERE )but also some silly and extremely fun high audience participation shows starting with Beach Blanket Be-Bop - A New Musical Revue on Thursdays this summer!
My family and I were invited to see this show and it comes complete with some of the tried and true aspects of the Gaslight Theatre - free refills on the popcorn, lots of laughs, checkered tablecloths, a great menu (including Grandma Tony's pizza), audience participation, live music accompaniment, witty (sometimes groan-worthy) jokes, great singing and did I say popcorn and pizza?

There are also a few differences- this show is more like the Olios from the end of a Gaslight show on Broadway. There is an emphasis on jokes, songs and on-stage audience participation! This makes for a slightly different experience from the melodrama expected at the Broadway Gaslight location but a laugh-out-loud-one nonetheless. My favorite joke was: Q. What do you call a surfer that broke up with his girlfriend? A. Homeless.

Kids and adults are invited on stage for different parts of the show- a hula hoop contest and limbo contest that award both the winners and participants a little extra souvenir to take home. When at the show, leave your shyness behind and jump in to participate. Your name may be used throughout the rest of the show- hint hint.Watch the Big Kahuna (Played by Jesus Limon) get down with the crowd- you do not want to miss his moves!
The standout performance for us throughout the entire show was the naturally wacky and silly Brian Paradis playing Glen in the show. He is over the top but makes it seem effortless and that he really is like that- maybe he is who knows but you have to watch all of his expressions and reactions- LOVED him!
